Some Voice Sampling Songs

January 10th, 2010

Well, this is the first post of the New Year, so I thought I would take it easy and just make a quick post about one of my favourite artists and an album that is very interesting to me. The artist is Pogo, and the album is Symphony of Science.
These artists have one thing in common; they both make songs through Voice Sampling. Voice sampling is simply where you take voice clips and sounds and re-mix them to make music. Pogo makes his music almost entirely from music featured in films or television series, where Symphony of Science mainly uses voice clips from famous scientists, like Carl Sagan, Steven Hawking, David Attenborough, and quite a few others.

The main reason I wanted to make this post is because both artists have released a new song for the New Year, so I felt it appropriate to mention them.

Symphony of Science: The Unbroken Thread

“”The Unbroken Thread” is the fourth video in the Symphony of Science series, and it features David Attenborough, Jane Goodall, and Carl Sagan. The clips used in this installment come from Carl Sagan’s Cosmos, David Attenborough’s Charles Darwin and the Tree of Life, The Life of Mammals, The Living Planet, BBC Life, XVIVO Scientific Animations, IMAX Cosmic Voyage, Jane Goodall’s TED Talk, and a clever Guiness Commercial. The themes present in The Unbroken Thread attempt to explore the wild diversity of life on our planet, the intricacy and origin of its mechanisms, and its close relation to all other life forms. ” – Quote from Symphony of Science Site

Pogo: Upular

Upular is made from voice samples and sound samples from Pixar’s Up.

Well, I hope that you enjoy the videos, if you have any other Voice Sampled songs I would be more than happy to hear about them in the comments,

Back soon,

Spotify = Good Stuff

June 14th, 2009

Spotify-ScreenCap

I’ve been using Spotify for a few weeks now and I know that several other writers of this here blog have also been using it. I just wanted to say how much fun I’ve had using it and how its a great little program.

Spotify is a neat little program that allows you to stream music straight from a huge database of songs. Spotify already has thousands of songs and they add several thousand every week, so eventually you’ll be able to find ANYTHING on Spotify.

Spotify is free and has only a few adverts (far less than you’d find on a radio) and you can ignore them most of the time. Spotify is a great service with a lot of interesting and useful features.

 1. Creation and Sharing of playlists
 2. Linking to specific songs/artists
 3. Last.fm support
 4. A vast database of music
 5. It’s free
 6. It looks and runs nicely – songs run vitually seamlessly

Basically, if you want to listen to music freely on your computer or want to listen to that one song you can’t find (or can’t be bothered to pirate) then Spotify is for you. I’ve really enjoyed my experience with Spotify and it’s pretty much overtaken iTunes in amount of use by me.

If you use Spotify please leave a comment, if you don’t like Spotify I’m very interested as to know why as I see no problems with the service and think that it can only get better – it’s only in beta at the moment as well.

Little Red Riding Hood Adaption

March 26th, 2009

Slagsmålsklubben – Sponsored by destiny from Tomas Nilsson on Vimeo.

I tweeted ths earlier but I think that this video deserves to be front page material. This video is the science behind Little Red Riding Hood. It is probably the best adaptation of this old and classic story of a child who goes to visit her grandmother, who has been eaten by wolves. The little girl is then saved by a woodsman and everyone (minus the wolf) live happily ever after.
The video was inspired by Royksopp who are actually pretty good.

I’ve been playing Assasins Creed, but it’s not been working very well on my PC. It aspires to be fun, but the lag is unbearable.

That’s all Folks,

Will Smith’s Greatest Hits

October 3rd, 2008

So I finally got Will Smith’s Greatest Hits and Building Blocks by Broadcast2000 yesterday, and I must say that I am very pleased with my purchase, I am enjoying both albums a lot. I would say that I prefer Building Blocks because it’s ‘real’ music where Greatest Hits is mainly for fun, and I don’t like every track like I do Building Blocks.

Will_front

I will make a recorded review of every single track from Will Smith’s Greatest Hits, and I will just type a review up for Building Blocks. But I’ll not have the reviews up for a while, because I want to thoroughly absorb all the musical greatness of both albums. So you may see that on my Last.fm Account that those two albums will be all I’ve been listening to for the past few days.

I am really enjoying Broadcast2000, you may have heard their song ‘Get Up and Go’ on the e-on advert. I found their music to be very soothing and I enjoy listening to every track. I would say my favourite track is ‘Run’, but I’ll expand on that more once I write my review.

If you get the chance vote for Rick Astley in the MTV Music Awards, for Best Act Ever.
